Vegetative lighting: HLG 65 V2 or HLG 250 Veg Pro?

The HLG 65 V2 and HLG 250 Veg Pro both serve vegetative growth, but are built for very different spaces. The 65 V2 is compact; the 250 Veg Pro is elongated and more powerful. Choose from your planted area, available height and target canopy PPFD, not the word “veg” alone.

What HLG documents

On 22 October 2026, HLG's exact US product pages gave the figures below. They establish a useful format comparison, but European plug, control option and box contents must be confirmed on the item delivered.

The 250's greater PPF does not make it a direct substitute for a 65 V2: it draws more power and targets a different geometry. The 65 uses a compact board; the 250 uses two boards along a long chassis.

Small square and elongated rectangular crop areas compared schematically.
Start with the shape of the planted area. These generic shapes are not manufacturer coverage claims.

When the 65 V2 fits the plan

Study it for a small propagation or vegetative area, or a localized section of a table. Check its PPFD map at the available height and inspect the outer rows. Multiplying compact fixtures across a long bench adds mounting and cable points, so an elongated format may be simpler.

When to study the 250 Veg Pro

Its length suits an investigation of rectangular benches and rows. It can reduce the number of suspension positions on a wider vegetative zone, but may be awkward in a small tent. Check its maximum input, control method, available height and electrical circuit. Do not transfer US mounting or connector details to a European unit without its manual.

On racks, include hanger, fixture and future canopy height in the clearance calculation.

Make the final comparison

Draw the crop area and service aisle. Place the proposed lights to scale, compare maps over the same useful area and account for overlap if using several 65 V2 units. Then add power draw at the intended settings and check the circuit. Species, stage and photoperiod establish the crop's light goal. Browse the HLG vegetative and propagation range for current European listings.

Common questions

Do several 65 V2 units equal a 250 Veg Pro?

Not automatically. Total PPF does not determine distribution, overlap, spectrum, cabling or control.

Does 4000 K describe the whole spectrum?

No. It describes white-light appearance; a spectral curve gives more detail across wavelengths.
